I Call You Mine Embracing God Gift of Adoption Kim de Blecourt 9781563092299 Books Reviews
- I Call You Mine, is an excellent bible study about adoption that is interwoven with scripture specific to adoption, the author's personal experience, and also with scripture that helps you to see God's heart and love for us. I was surprised and impressed at the scripture that was used, as it was not your typical adoption scripture. The author looks at adoption and our adoption as God’s children in a fresh new way. She encourages you to be open to the message that God has for you, to be open to the relationship he wants to have with you and to understand that we always have God - even during those times that we are weak and feel alone.
As an adoptive parent of three children adopted internationally l LOVED the study. I found myself remembering some of our personal journey - the pre- adoption stuff, moments during our actual trips and then the post adoption moments. Sometimes the memories were happy and other times they brought forth cleansing tears. Absolutely healing! This is an excellent study and will help families considering adoption, families that have adopted, as well as families that support or are interested in learning more about adoption and God's plan for us.
I received a complimentary copy of this study. This review is my honest opinion and no review was required. - I received an advanced copy of this book to read and review. I am halfway done with it now (life gets crazy with a newborn). I like how this book is organized by topics and is easy to follow. I am a parent but have never adopted but honestly this book is great for any human as we were all adopted by God so we can all learn from the message of this book. Some reflection questions are geared more towards people who have (or are) actually adopting so I just skipped those, but other questions I just crossed off the word adoption (as in adoption journey) and wrote parenthood in there instead and answered the question that way too. There are still lots of Bible verses to look up and learn from too as well as personal stories to read and grow from. Each days lesson will take on average 15-30 minutes to complete (depending how fast you read, look up verses, and how much you think about and write down in the reflection questions. I like how I can jump back into it after being too busy for a few days and know I can just learn something new without having to feel lost or remember all of the previous lesson. I recommend this book/Bible study to anyone... regular parents, adoptive parents, etc.
- Kim de Blecourt crafts a wonderful Bible study on what adoption really means. It’s not only taking a child into your home, but it’s also about the system of love God created in bringing all of us to Himself. In I Call You Mine (I received an advance copy of the book in order to review), there are stories of experiences the author shares that showed her that God was in control of all things … especially things of the heart. God’s truth shines throughout the book on the different aspects of adoption. Adoption isn’t an easy process, but aren’t the best things in life worth fighting for? God fights for us because of His great love for us. This book reminds us that we are not our own, but part of a big family that God has adopted. The Lord commits to never let us go … no matter what. What a great model to follow!
- I Call You Mine is a comprehensive handbook and bible study that wraps it's arms around the adoptive family, covering every minute detail of the adoption journey that no one tells you about. Loneliness, fear, helping your child with the trauma that makes your family or adopted child have a different story than most other families on the block. Kim's book is a gift to anyone preparing for adoption and walking into the post adoption experience. It's a book that will minister God's grace to your soul. As a counselor who has worked with kids from hard places both in foster care and adoptive kids, I applaud Kim for her comprehensive work in I Call You Mind. She truly is an orphan advocate, helping parents understand why their child may be struggling with various dynamics and also why an adoptive parent may be struggling, too.
I received an advanced copy of I Call You Mine to review. - This 6-week study provides encouragement and support for adoptive parents and those in the midst of the adoption process. The author takes from her own experience as she looks at our spiritual adoption as Christians and compares it to the adoption of a child. Each day of the study includes stories (both from adoptive parents and the Bible), application questions, opportunities to dig into Scripture and a weekly verse to memorize. Throughout the six weeks, it focuses on various aspects of the adoption process. As an adoptive mom of three, I wish I had this study as we prepared to bring each of our boys home. I found great comfort and peace as I read through each day; it also provided me with hope as I move forward in parenting my children.
It is a great study for adoptive parents, those interested in adoption and those supporting friends and family through an adoption. It would also make a wonderful small group Bible study! I would definitely recommend it!
I received an advance reader copy from the author, but the opinions are my own. - “I Call You Mine†is an incredible 6-week study that examines adoption in a way that no other book on the market does!
Not only does the author share her own adoption experiences, but she beautifully reminds us that as Believers, we are adopted too. As someone who grew up in a very broken home, this reminder of my new heritage is timely. As an adoptive parent, this book resonated with me deeply. Our adoption journey has changed me, and all for the better. This guide is going to help me parent my adopted child in a new way.
Thank you, Kim, for writing a such an incredible book that I will read again and again!
