• Just finishing the first week's study.
  
  I am spending 30-45 minutes per day on each lesson. The lesson could be completed in less time or, using the online helps, much more time devoted.
  
  Most chapters cover one Psalm. The chapters each include a full size coloring page and a "margin-sized" book mark based on the coloring page. The chapters (and online helps) also encourage performing arts, culinary arts, and literary arts.
  
  The Chapters open with the Psalm printed as stanzas, not as verses/prose. Nothing else is on the page except a small decorative trim, leaving plenty of room for marking key words, lists, comparisons, or even art journaling.
  
  Although I have only worked the first chapter, I found that the author uses other Psalms and New Testsment references to allow scripture to interpret scripture. She also uses spends some time explaining Hebrew "poetry" and figurative language for even greater understanding.
  
  While the lessons are not difficult, I have found something to "chew on" in each lesson. The lessons teach information, but also provoke spiritual growth.
  
  I expected a skinny book, light on study, heavy on coloring pages. I found a book that encourages the arts while nurturing the soul.
  
  If you want to spend quality time in the Psalms, I highly recommend this book.

She teaches how the Psalms were written, then step by step guides you in writing your own Psalms.
  
  Written for both small groups and individual study, the emphasis is on studying 10 Psalms and using creativity in various expressions to take one further in understanding the messages of hope in those Psalms. The lessons were designed to meet the needs of those with busy schedules and those who desire to spend more time doing the creative expression options. I received an advanced review copy and timed all the lessons in the eight chapters. The daily average time spent in the lessons was under 20 minutes if options were not done.
  
  Included in the study are Pam Farrel's Hope Alive section and Karla Dornacher's Creative Connection, both found in each chapter. Pam from her personal experiences gives encouragement on how to live a life of hope and how to study God's Word using creative expression. Karla's illustrations are beautiful and represent the messages in each Psalm. Her words, illustrations and tips will inspire you to find your own creative ways of expressing God's Word.

• I'll start by confessing that I am not a "coloring book" person. So that was not a draw for me -- in fact it could've been a deterrent. But being very familiar with Pam Farrel's work, I was confident the study would be excellent. Plus, I love the Psalms. My confidence was rewarded! I found the study to be engaging and informative. In addition to the rich teaching of the content of the Psalms themselves, Jean Jones does an excellent job of educating us in the various literary facets of the psalms -- a lot of which I did not know even after five decades of Bible study. Karla Dornacher gives great suggestions for the artists and although I'm not one, Karla might be amused to know that I found myself reaching for my colored pencils more than once. I used this study for my personal quiet time, but I could easily see this in a women's Bible study and actually gave a copy of the book to our Women's Ministry Leader. So whether you're looking for a group study or some one-on-one time with the Lord, I recommend Discovering Hope in the Psalms.
• I was blown away at the study part of Discovering Hope in the Psalms, with Jean. She brought such depth that it has changed how I read the psalms. I have started a daily gratitude journal using what I learned in this study, writing a gratitude psalm every day in my calendar-what a treasure at the end of this year!!! Thank YOU, Jean! Pam shared from her real, childhood struggles (and adult) and they hit the spot for me and my journey with Christ! Thank YOU, Pam! I have followed Karla D. for over 20 years, her art spoke to me when I was just coming back to Jesus and the scripture she uses are seen anew! Now, I am journaling in my Bible and seeking help to learn to use colored pencils, watercolor markers to be creative and fill my soul . . .with my Creator, Elohim! This study has changed my life in so many wonderful ways and I am forever grateful. I would suggest where available meet with a friend or small group to review each week, perhaps craft together! • Discovering Hope In The Psalms is a wonderful Bible Study that will fill you with great hope. Each chapter is a deep dive into the hope of God's Word. There is a full coloring page that accompanies each chapter for you to color and meditate on God's promises. I just completed an eight week online Bible study using Discovering Hope In The Psalms and my faith is renewed and my hope is strong. This is definitely a five star study that you'll be glad you purchased!
• I'm quite impressed with clear presentation of in depth study of each Psalm covered in this book. Clear teaching, powerful application, and meaningful beautifully drawn artwork to color along with other suggestions for meaningful creative expression and processing of God's Word. While the book is fairly thick with 5 days of lessons per chapter. The work flows easily and is kept to a manageable pace.
  So thankful that God brought these three ladies together to write this beautiful book!
